A Kitchen Remodel in Chula, Georiga

A coastal-inspired kitchen with navy kitchen island and quartz countertops

A Functional, Island-Centered Kitchen Layout

The owners of this Chula, Georgia, home embarked on a comprehensive kitchen transformation driven by a desire for enhanced functionality and updated interior design elements. This project aimed to create an inviting space that opened up the kitchen, giving the family a more functional area for everyday use. Additionally, the family sought to extend these improvements to their family room and chose to update the flooring with a light-colored engineered wood floor laid in a herringbone pattern throughout the living areas in their home.

Their vision was to blend coastal aesthetics with the warmth of Southwest Georgia seamlessly. And the coastal-inspired color palette did just that. The navy kitchen island and vent hood, rough-cut marble mosaic backsplash, and a lightly colored engineered wood floor set the tone for the desired ambiance of this newly transformed home in South Georgia.

The Costal-Inspired Kitchen: The Details

  • The kitchen went from two islands, both with water sources and electrical, to one large island with just as much plumbing and probably more electrical.

  • The new kitchen island accommodates two dishwashers (yes, TWO dishwashers). The kitchen island also houses an appliance lift, ensuring effortless accessibility to heavy kitchen tools such as mixers and food processors.

  • We incorporated an incredible pop-up electrical outlet that blends seamlessly with the Calcutta Laza quartz countertops.

  • To give the countertop a more substantial look, we mitered the edges. This also allowed us to raise the overall height of the countertop, which the homeowner found to be more comfortable than the standard 36" high countertop.

  • The kitchen boasts Eclipse Cabinetry, a line modeled after a European-style cabinet, meaning they have a very tight reveal, so you don’t see any of the face frames.

  • We incorporated many custom organization features like pegboards in the larger cabinet drawers, a custom-built cookie sheet divider, and spice pullouts conveniently located next to the Viking Range and double oven.

  • We carried the coastal-inspired theme throughout the home with a lightly colored engineered wood floor. To create an interesting element for the Chula home’s entryway, we installed the flooring in a herringbone pattern in the foyer area.
